Launch Event at Linenhall Library Belfast.

With Csilla Toldy and Esther Bloch

To mark Good Relations Week and its theme of ‘OpportUNITY’, Csilla Toldy and Esther Bloch (Sekules) told the powerful story of the Sekules family, at the Linenhall Library, Belfast on 17 September 2024, withan audience of some 90 people.

The event was introduced by Patsy Horton on behalf of the Linenhall LIbrary and followed by Csilla Toldy talking about how the book came about. Patricia Corbett from the National Lottery Heritage Fund spoke about the importance of the project and thanked everyone for their contribution to making it happen. Esther Bloch (Walter’s sister) then told the extraordinary story of how she and Walter came to be in Northern Ireland with their parents Kurt and Edith Sekules and how the knitting factory in Kilkeel was established. The factory ran through the ‘troubles’ and only closed recently. With filmed footage of Walter talking about his life and readings from the book by actress Vicky Blades, the appreciative audience expressed their thanks to the organisers privately and publicly
