The Lucia Project

Based on the life story of James Joyce’s daughter Lucia Light Theatre Company is developing an Immersive Dance Drama.

A promising dancer in 1920’s Paris was trained by Isadora Duncan’s brother Raymond in what was known as ‘Rhythmic Dancing’, Lucia was beginning to be noticed by critics and the press, who for reasons that are not entirely clear, she stopped dancing and spent most of the rest of her life in therapy and institutions.

The project has been part funded to date by the Go Succeed programme and continues to be supported by the DfC and Future Screens NI.

This illustrated children's book was published by Light Theatre Company at the beginning of the year as a resource for Holocaust Education. Based on the true story of Walter Sekules, Csilla Toldy tells the inspiring story of how a ten-year-old boy and his Austrian family survived the Holocaust and came to Northern Ireland in 1947 where they set up a knitwear business in Kilkeel, Co. Down, employing up to 300 local women (many of them single parents) .

Copies of the book have been donated to local libraries and schools in NI and England and members of the Sekules family, the author Csilla and members of LTC can be booked to give talks about the book.
